Diversity Coalition SLO County

I served as an equitable electrification specialist for DCSLOC. The mission of DCSLOC is to build and sustain a coalition that seeks a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community through advocacy and education.

Equitable Electrification Specialist

I supported two key initiatives that advance Diversity Coalition’s climate goals, with a focus on supporting and empowering California's Central Coast communities most impacted by climate change.

Electrifying mobile/manufactured homes

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Buildings Upgrade Prize, I worked on a collaborative project on behalf of Diversity Coalition San Luis Obispo County with the City of San Luis Obispo, CAPSLO, and Artemisia Energy to support the City’s goal of reducing building emissions by 50% by 2030. Focused on addressing the underserved mobile home sector, the project aims to:

  • Identify cost-effective conditions for mobile home electrification retrofits

  • Develop a community-driven electrification concierge service to streamline technical, financial, and administrative barriers.

  • Facilitate the design of an accessible program for low-income mobile homeowners, enhancing their ability to participate in electrification efforts and meet equity objectives.

Electrification for Everyone

Electrification for Everyone

Together with BlocPower, RACE Matters and Central Coast Coalition for Undocumented Student Success we deployed an equity-focused education and outreach campaign in San Luis Obispo County to increase awareness and chart a path towards electrification in high-needs, hard-to-reach, black-and-brown communities.

Research questions

  • What type of clean energy messages and strategies resonate the most with BIPOC and LMI communities?

  • How can a community-based marketing and outreach campaign successfully educate BIPOC and LMI communities about immediate bill reduction strategies and lead to heat pump adoption?

The playbook and learning from this pilot will inform how to increase the reach of TECH incentives in underserved, hard-to-reach communities.
